Been so busy at work. Snowed under! Its usually the case just before end of the year. Everyone seems to want everything before Xmas! But I still try to find time to paint to relax myself and relieve the stress.... Michelle and I decided we should try painting outdoors for a change. We picked Bradley's Head which is a National Park in Manly. It is quite near to the Taronga zoo. Beautiful views, beautiful day, lotsa people having a picnic or chilling out. There was even a wedding shoot for a while. Really interesting. What I was afraid most was people watching whilst I was painting hahahah yeah it does give you more pressure *laugh. Fortunately, we found a secluded corner where theres not as much people. Still there were some people who came to have a look and had a chat with us, which was quite nice. Yes, I have been so busy with work and stuff that it took me so long to organise and upload this. I have not used oil paints before and wanted to have a go to see the difference between oil and acrylic. I wouldnt say Im good at still life. The only closest thing I did was still life sketching in high school. Thus this is a whole new experience for me. I didnt realise it takes so much observation, effort, patience and time to get the painting to look "life-like". We started off with a simple object. I chose an apple. You might think its easy but the more reflection in an object the harder it is to paint. For eg an egg would have been much harder to capture than an apple. Before we started, we were advised to choose a small canvas to start with. I wondered why. After finishing my 1st painting of the apple, I understood why. Its really sad. Steve shows the world australian native wildlife on his documentaries, not that Im a big fan but I do like watching documentaries. He has fought crocs and brown snakes and nothing happened to him before but yet he gets killed by a stingray which is very rare. At least when he died, he was doing what he loves doing... I still cant believe I did 6 paintings (some are very small) Very intensed and everyone was in the mood; so much so we only had a short half an hour lunch and everyone was eager to come back to paint hehehe<BR><BR>Today Ms Yaeli showed us her collection of books and brochures from famous artists. We were supposed to find our tone and inspiration from whichever artist we find appeals to us. I chose 4 different styles to work with and had too much fun! I did my 1st abstract painting class today 14th May Sun on Mothers' Day with Macquarie community college at Eastwood. It was so much fun! I got in touch with my artistic abilities again which I was always looking forward to. Im so glad I made the decision to do it and lucky that I got in with a late enrolment just under a week before! (I enrolled 10 May, 4 days before class! Other classes were full so maybe I was fated to do this) The teacher Ms Yaeli was so much fun and made me look at painting and art in a total new perspective... Ive always done my art slowly and almost as perfect as I could when I was an art student in secondary school cos I was doing still life and watercolour and calligraphy; it was about being precise then.
